PrimeTime at San Diego Unified School District

What is PrimeTime? The PrimeTime Extended Day Program, provides elementary and middle school students with a fun and engaging learning environment during the hours most parents/guardians are working. Parents/guardians can feel comfortable knowing their children are not only receiving professional academic support but are also interacting with peers in a physically and emotionally safe environment.

Students can "get in the Zone" in the PrimeTime environment by participating in structured activities with their friends. Arts, music, athletics, and cooperative team-building games, are just a few of the invigorating activities children will participate in during the prime part of the day.

PrimeTime is offered at 120 schools citywide serving more than 20,000 students each year.

Along the San Diego Unified School District, the YMCA of San Diego County provides the PrimeTime Extended Day Programs at the following sites:

This program generally operates immediately after school until 6:00 pm daily. However, this program does not operate when schools are closed, including intercessions, vacations and holidays.

Hours and site contact information for each school is available here.

How Are Students Selected?

All students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 who attend PrimeTime schools can apply.

Completed applications that are submitted by the deadline during the initial application timeline will be reviewed for the initial enrollment period. Students will be accepted for participation based on the application rating system detailed below, up to the capacity for each school’s program.  Once PrimeTime has reached its capacity, students not accepted for participation will be placed on a wait list, in the same order of priority, and will be accepted as space becomes available.

Parents/guardians may choose to have their child attend either the before school and/or after school programs, if applicable.  Choosing only the before school or after school program will not affect the rating of the application.

Each application will be prioritized using the following rating system:

Child participated in PrimeTime during the previous school year or child is on the PrimeTime waitlist for the upcoming school year.

1 Point

Single parent household or families with one parent/guardian currently on military deployment (a copy of orders may be required upon request).
